After a wet and windy night in the Waikato the morning dawned fine for a beautiful day for the first of the Winter Fun rides for 2015. The event again attracted great entries with over 300 lining up to tackle the 80km or 50km options. Starting and finishing at the Matamata Club we were set for a great day out on the roads.
With almost perfect riding condition means fast times. The field split into a number of large groups with the front group containing about 50 riders. The pace was hot and young Connor Brown was first home in the 80km event in just under 1 Hour 54 mins followed closely by Jared Gray and Matt Markby. Jared Treymane had brilliant ride in the 50km event finishing in 1 hour 26mins nearly 4 minutes ahead of the chasing group of riders.
The series moves to Hamilton next week in what poses to be a tough course for the riders with a few more hills to contend with than this event. Look for the likes of Daniel Molyneux to be near the front next week dishing out some hurt on the climbs.
